Creating New Memories

It's been a long year. We have all faced some very difficult times with state lockdowns, our rights infringed upon. It's time to take back your life and create new memories. Memories that will help us heal as a person, family, community, state, country.

It's time to start creating new memories, that will outshine the horrible experiences you've faced with #Covid19

1. Our sense of smell is a powerful trigger to memories. So whether you add flowers to your workspace or home.. or head to the kitchen cooking and baking independently or as a family, create great memories. Example: Many folks love the smell of coffee, freshly baked cookies, and we love the smell of dinner. Take the time to make a special breakfast with the coffee brewing. Or surprise the kids with fresh cookies or blueberry muffins after school! Why not make dinner as a family. Pasta night is always a great night to get everyone in the kitchen. Turn on some music, make it fun. One person making the sauce, another the pasta, someone for the salad, setting the table and don't forget the fresh roasted bread. 2. Go ahead and start that new hobby out of respect for a loved one you lost. Example: If you always wanted to paint, paint a landscape in their memory. Feel the love you shared with them. Maybe they enjoyed the countryside or the beach. Did they enjoy city life? Make it fun, enjoyable. Hang it proudly in honor of those you lost. It might be horrible, yes. But I'm sure they would love the fact that you tried and created something in their name. Let the process help you heal and move forward. 3. Laugh more. Our emotions strengthen our ability to encode and recall things we experience. What's that saying, "Laughter is the best medicine." Example: We've all experienced bad times. Whether we were ill, got a bad grade, our boyfriend/girlfriend broke up with us and someone comes along and makes us laugh. We feel better. And in doing so, when we remember that situation, it doesn't feel so bad, because we... remember the laughter. So do something that makes you laugh, happy, excited. It will help ease the pain, frustration, isolation you feel now. Creating these memories are the first step to making new ones tomorrow.
