New York's Plastic Bag Ban goes into effect this Sunday, March 1st


What You Need To Know Some counties have opted-in to a 5-cent fee on paper bags. To avoid this fee all together BRING YOUR OWN BAG!!!!

Some stores have even announced they will be charging a 5-cent fee on paper, regardless of what county the store is located (i.e. Wegman's, Price Chopper, Hannaford).

- Bans stores from giving out for free thin-film single-use plastic bags. - The Bag Ban applies to more than just grocery stores. Whether you're going to the grocery store, clothes shopping, or to a home improvement store, make sure to bring your reusable bags. - 5-cent fee on paper bags in some counties and some stores - By bringing your own bag, you won't have to worry about any fee and can do your daily part to reduce this needless form of plastic pollution. - The Plastic Bag and Film Plastics Recycling Law is still in effect. NYers are still able to recycle plastic carryout bags and other thin film plastic at certain retail stores and most grocery stores.
