The Acting Director of Environmental Health, calls for Facebook post to be removed

Broome County Health Department, Acting Director of Environmental Health, Joshua Phelps shows concern over Facebook post claiming "vicious animals" within the community of Endicott, New York.

Here's what he had to say, "One of my inspectors was in the neighborhood performing a routine rabies investigation last week, but the situation was not as described in the post. We were simply looking to identify the owners of some animals, not capture vicious animals. We have contacted the person who posted the notice, and it will hopefully be removed shortly."

This all comes after a post went out of Facebook, which we covered earlier. Animal Attack Claim goes out across Facebook, September 22, 2018. We also touched base with Matthew Laine from the Broome County Health Department who had this to say, "The incident took place on Sept 15, 2018, in the area of Oak Hill. The encounters were serious but not life-threatening. We get numerous calls about animals all the time. However, we did not feel it warranted a public alert, statement, or call to local police. We are unaware of the locations mentioned in the Facebook post. The dogs have not been found, they most likely went back home. Broome Health believes the dogs just got out on their owner[s]." #publicsafety

It can be a very slippery slope when people post things out on social media. Inaccurate information can cause concerns and make situations worse than they are. However, we have no control over what people put out there. If ever you question something you see posted on out social media that involves your community, never be afraid to ask?
