Village of Endicott: Alerts About Your Water

Have you ever wondered where your water comes from? Maybe you want to get alerts faster about when the Endicott Water Dept is flushing the system or there's a boil water advisory. We spoke with the Village Dept today, just to get you those answers.

The Endicott Water Dept is located at 1009 E. Main Street, Endicott, New York. And you should know, they do water testing weekly. If something comes up like a main break, that information is sent to the Health Department. While the Water Dept does post alerts out on their website, to keep the public informed, they currently have no way to sign up for alerts through that site. A spokesperson at the dept. said, "The best way to stay informed is to check the Endicott Water Dept website for postings or you can sign up for alerts through New York State Alerts System. In a moment, we're going to walk you through that process. But first, we want to tell you where your water comes from. Most people don't even know. The Village of Endicott has three sites South Street, Sky Island Tank, and Pine Street Tanks. If you live in down town Endicott near Washington Ave.,you live in the Lower Pressure District, which gets fed from a well. Those three tank areas we just mentioned actually feed off the wells. When something happens like a main break or other serious issues, the Broome County Dept of Health work with Emergency Preparedness Personnel to get alerts out and resolve the issue as quickly as possible. You may be thinking, "What's up with flushing the system?"

The first step is to SIGN IN or ENROLL. Next LOGIN when ready. On the RIGHT SIDE of your screen you should see EDIT ALERTS, click it. Go ahead and pick the COUNTY or COUNTIES you wish to receive alerts about. Be sure to ✓ the alerts you want to receive. Alerts for water issues would fall under such things as "public health" "sewage discharge" and even "emergency alerts". Be sure to click SAVE. Next click on the MY PROFILE section and choose how you wish to receive those "alerts". Fill in all the information needed and set the STATUS to "ON".

Again, make sure to SAVE.

(This is all done through the Everbridge App.) You can download this mobile safety app from Goggle Play or the iTunes App Store. Be sure to add your location. Just one more thing...

Under the MY LOCATION if you're using the sex offender alert, go ahead and set the distance. It's that easy! Now the next time there's a water issue, you'll be ready.

I want to thank the people at the Endicott Water Dept and Broome County Health Dept for answering my questions as a community member. I've learned so much and I hope you found this information helpful. I also want to thank a member of the Endicott Fire, this was a growing concern in the community.

Be sure to check back for any updates or changes in the future.

We're here to keep you INFORMED.
